The Kinley Project Engineer

The Project Engineer provides support to the Project Manager on an assigned project or group of projects. They perform routine activities and assist in gathering and distributing information to team members. They function as an advocate and role model for Kinley’s core values, safety principles, and culture of personal responsibility. They think clearly and use sound judgment at all times.

 

Towards meeting these responsibilities, the Project Engineer:

 

  • Will routinely perform the following tasks:

    • Develop list of qualified subcontractors for each scope of work that will be subcontracted

    • Assist with writing RFPs for subcontractor scope of work and soliciting quotes from subcontractors

    • Solicit material quotes from vendors

    • Fill out project data sheet

    • Attend project kickoff meeting

    • Assemble hard copies of drawings and specs for field

    • Develop draft budget for review

    • Work with PM and Superintendent to develop the baseline project schedule

    • Write material purchase orders and submit to vendors

    • Write draft subcontracts for review

    • Work with new subcontractors and vendors as well as Kinley Accounts Payable to ensure billing accounts are setup and all necessary paperwork is in order (W9, insurance certificates, etc.)

    • Collect submittal data from subcontractors and vendors, review for completeness and accuracy, assemble Kinley submittal packages for review

    • Work with Kinley Safety Department to develop the Site Specific Safety Plan if necessary

    • Review timecards each week for thoroughness and accuracy

    • Fill out cost information and update cost tracking spreadsheet monthly for review with PM

    • Monitor use of equipment and labor, relative to the cost tracking spreadsheet

    • Order special material and equipment as needed

    • Write, submit, and track status of RFIs

    • Communicate with field personnel (Superintendent, Safety Manager, QC Manager) regarding all project specific needs that come up daily. Work with the field personnel to resolve problems/issues. Elevate necessary items to the PM.

    • Visit jobsite periodically with PM. Track construction progress, observe means and methods, interact with the crew (ask questions, talk to them, get to know them, learn about what they do), perform safety audits

    • Cost code credit card receipts monthly and submit to PM for review and approval

    • Determine if a work activity is outside of the contract scope

    • Work with Superintendent to determine construction execution means and methods for the scope change, as well as expected crew size and duration of work

    • Create an estimate for the scope change and review with PM

    • Prepare/compile necessary support documents for submittal as backup to the change order request

    • Compile project documents for review and submittal to client for closeout

    • Archive project documents internally

    • Attend close-out/lessons learned meeting

    • Provide full-time project engineering coverage at the job site, should the size of the project require this level of coverage

    • Strong computer skills and proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
